  1. Chinese BELIEVE each finger of the hand represents a different relationship

Another idea behind the fourth finger of the left hand as the wedding ring finger goes back to an ancient Chinese concept.

The Chinese say each finger of the hand represents a different relationship.

Your thumb represents your parents.

Your index finger represents your siblings.

Your middle finger represents you.

Your fourth finger represents your life partner.

And your little finger represents your children.

Hold your thumbs, index fingers, fourth fingers and pinky fingers tip to tip and bend your middle fingers, holding them joint to joint.

If you tried separating your thumbs(parents) they would open, meaning we weren’t meant to spend the rest of our lives with them.

Try opening index fingers(your siblings) they will open because your siblings have to live their own lives.

Try separating your pinky fingers(your children) they will open because your children will grow up and settle down on their own.

But try to separate your fourth fingers which represent you and your spouse, you would be amazed to see that they can’t be separated because you and the love of your life aren’t meant to be separated, you’re meant to be together come what may.

That being said, different cultures around the world have different traditions when it comes to wearing the wedding ring.
